Do you have a child at home who goes to school? If you do, then we all know September can be very stressful one months. Not only are the children trying entering their new schedules but so are parents. Change is not easy for many, but if you help organize the "little things" like a bag canvas of a new sport or the top of his desk bedroom, which can carry its weight in gold as their academic and personal lives continue to grow in complexity.
Before fourth-grade teachers and parents tend to organize the children in class and at home. By the time departmentalize in middle school who are carrying the weight of the world on his back inside a portable office if you want to call it, and will have to determine how to organize:
Space - Backpacks, cabinets and a desk
Book - Binders, notebooks and folders
Time - Planning or at least a calendar
"Once the technical aspects of academic life of students in a caring for the child can then concentrate on doing their work rather than putting it! "The students, organized by Donna Goldberg
These are the same areas (space, time and paper adults) organize what we have to help our children with the basic skills they need to structure their organizational systems. Remember Posse recipe for organizational success; SSPOE (Sort, Select, Purge, organize, Equalize) every time you help your child organize anything.
Example: Backpack
Before any organizational effort with your child make sure you have their permission to include your help and participation. You'll see and hear the solutions that you could never have thought and most likely will keep the organization because it was part of the process! TIP: If your child is not willing to work with you, forcing it going to get anything, so ask me again in a month or two.
Discuss the objectives for the space. You might say, "I can help you organize your backpack and locker? This will give us the opportunity to make things are not lost or very difficult to find. In turn, this will help you find your documents, books, tasks, and as you travel back and forth to school and our house. You will be able to get to class on time, turn in assignments on time and find the information need to do homework each night without worry. "
ort S - Take everything from the backpack and all types together into categories logical books, loose papers, pens, pencils, folders, electronics, money, extracurricular items, food, bus pass cell phone holder, keys, garbage etc.
S elect - Determine what is important and belongs in backpack. What should and should not have come home from school and as books of certain tasks.
P urge - Anything that is obviously trash like food wrappers, scribbling papers etc. Discuss what not to re-enter your backpack as any type of toy.
We organize / container / A. Labelize Organize - Place the item back in the pack your child how to "think" about them. If your books, folders and binding to be in the order of their classes from morning till evening, where go to his favorite themes, the least favorite is that he wants the books together low to high, or do you want to bring things to color? No matter how do, as long as makes sense to him and he always uses the same "system" every day to maintain order. In this way when he gets to his locker that can mimic the same setup. If your locker and backpack are organized the same way that saves time and think to find his subjects. B. In containers - Do your best to buy a good quality backpack with multiple compartments so you can set-up "homes" for different categories of items. Sure that the area of your child drinks is on the outside of the packaging or in an area of the leak-proof container. c. Labelize - Use a labeling machine and labels to areas in the backpack, such as books, folders, Homework, Money, pencil case etc. This will be a visual reminder of where things are going and children tend to obey the signals they create. You can also create a "map" of the package or take a picture of the newly created for what can continuously refer back storing it until it solidifies.
Match / Get / Enjoy - Nobody is perfectly organized especially children. There will be a setback, of course. Have to remember every day at first and then weekly to ensure they remain up to date with its maintenance. You may want them clean their packages every Friday or Sunday night until it becomes routine. Explain how important it is for them is to perform this ritual regularly as it will keep organized.
