Set Luggage

All passengers traveling to and from South Africa have a luggage allowance, but, like the vast majority of national airlines and international, there are certain weight and size requirements.

Thereafter, any excess luggage will be paid according to the charges contained below.

Note that to be eligible for free allowances, each piece of baggage weighing not more than 32 kg or 100 pounds of weight and the total allocation for each passenger per flight is 100 kg or 219 pounds. In addition, each passenger has the right of extra baggage that can be easily provided saved on the top shelf or under the seat.

If you happen to be flying first class or business, you are entitled to two pieces of hand luggage, provided that enter the size and weight dimensions. passengers in economy class, however, are limited to only one piece of hand luggage.

• Each each piece can not weigh more than 8 kg or 18 pounds should be 55x40x20 cm or less, and should not be greater than 115 cm or 45 inches
• folding garment bags with dimensions 57x54x15cm maximum are also permitted
• So are the smaller items such as cameras, jackets, bags and even strollers fully collapsible
• Passengers with disabilities are allowed any number of items, free of charge, including dialysis equipment, crutches and even a chair wheel. It is advisable, however, contact each airline directly for a concise breakdown of these allowances

All other excess baggage must be assessed and charged according to two basic principles - the weight concept and piece concept.

Weight Concept

Any excess baggage is charged at a rate of 1.5% of the highest normal direct adult, one-way economy class related with the day and the direction of travel and only from the point where it is considered excess baggage to the first point of collection. There are a handful of exceptions international including:

• In Australia and New Zealand - 1%
• From Europe and the Middle East to Australia and New Zealand - 1% (except for Israel, where a rate of 1.5% is applicable)
• From London on a direct flight SAA rate of 1.5% will be applied

The national airline South African Airways has a number of exceptions to the flat rate charges, and integrate

From Frankfurt or Munich to South Africa - 30 euros per kg

To Blantyre or Lilongwe - R30 per kg

For Maputo - R25 per kg

For Mauritius - R50 per kg

Mauritius - MUR160 per kg

For Luanda - R45 per kg

To Mumbai - R110 per kg

A Hong Kong - R65 per kg

The rate of excess luggage for domestic travel in South Africa is R30 per kg. Passengers traveling with golf bags, surfboards, bicycles and other sports should contact the company directly for applicable rates.

Part Concept

Note that even if a passenger with an allocation of PC controls in baggage after a stopover concerns a path which applies the concept of weight, the PC will remain free baggage allowance but charge for excess baggage must be paid according to the weight concept charges above.

An excess charge will apply for each bag over 2 checked bags: any bag larger than 158 cm or 62 inches, but less than 203 cm or 80 inches, and two more bags greater than 273cm or 107 inches but not exceeding 158 cm bag

Two excess charges will apply for numbers plus excess baggage for all over 2 checked bags and that the larger 158cm but less than 203 cm

Three overage charges will apply to any bag that is larger than 203 cm and / or weighs 32 kg or 70 pounds for the first 45kg or part thereof, for each additional 10kg or part thereof, an excess baggage fee will apply.
