After more than two decades in the league, kicker Morten Andersen has announced his retirement from the NFL. Andersen, that is 48 years, is the career leading scorer, led the NFL with 2427 points during his career, which began in 1982. He took the record the December 17, 2006 in a game against the Dallas Cowboys. The reason for retirement is in part because it was unable to get a contract this season and also because of knee problems. Andersen is a native of Denmark, Copenhagen where he was born and raised in Struer. It is also in Denmark, where he announced his retirement, citing the fact that his country had been so supportive during his career. As a young man in Denmark, he was involved in soccer, gymnastics and long jump. Andersen immigrated to the United States in 1977 as an exchange student abroad. He attended Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana before enrolling at Michigan State University. Andersen was a great success, while at MSU kicker, setting school records for points after TD 126 and most points scored with 261, and a great record of 10 field goals with 45 more. His achievements led to Andersen being taken by Saints New Orleans in the fourth round of the 1982 draft.

His first year with the Saints, who played in eight games and made six of six extra point attempts and two of five field goals. He stayed with New Orleans Saints for 13 seasons, he played in all 16 games in all seasons, but twice. From there, he spent six seasons with the Atlanta Falcons from 1995-2000, and playing time every game. It was also 100 percent in time after attempts in four of those seasons. From there, he played one season with the Giants in New York before going to the Kansas City Chiefs for two seasons. He was with the Vikings for one season in 2004 before finishing his career with the Falcons in 2006 and 2007. There was a percentage point after 100 percent of his last three seasons.
