I have to admit, I had a bit of a shock.

I went to Virginia Aquarium (formerly Marine Science Center Virginia) expecting to get into shape free, using my card ASTC Passport Program (which gives free access to science museums across the country participating.)

Oops. Despite the "science" the name, Virginia Aquarium is an aquarium really considered (hey, maybe that's why he changed his name?). So do not honor membership cards science museum.

But for what it offers, Virginia Aquarium is not expensive, and worth the price.

The highlights:

• 700 000 gallons of tank (s)
• 300 hands-on exhibits and buttons to push
• "Alligators Alive" exhibition (until May) with a live albino alligator
• IMAX 3D films
• Touch tanks where you can touch and / or pick up horseshoe crabs and sea stars
• 1 / 3 mile nature trail where can see bald eagles, eagles and other wildlife on the road or 30-foot observation tower

At $ 11.95 for adults, is half the price of the Baltimore Aquarium, and 60% less than the new Georgia Aquarium. (Besides, there are ways to save on tickets. See below ...)

So he holds the VA itself with other museums to fish? Of course.

My favorite part? Its fascinating, two-story, floor to ceiling fish "wall." The rest of the room and the floor is dark, and a natural silence seems to fall on visitors to enter.

Sit quietly, and you can imagine is in the bottom of the sea (with a lot of oxygen, of course). It's incredibly relaxing to watch the fish swim smoothly, and feel your worries wash.

My dear children, especially the touch tanks (if you are a type of contact tank, you may want to check out the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News). You find the right to maintain (and children) occupied for hours. And on a hot day, is happily with air conditioning.

The Virginia Aquarium emotion does not stop at its walls. They also offer a variety of truly unique "extra" programs that you find it hard to match elsewhere:

• Whale Watching - (End of December to March) - Narrated by VA teacher-training in particular, these tours allow you to search for humpback and fin whales on the coast of Virginia Beach. Cost: $ 20 adult, $ 15 ages 1-11.
• Creek Cruise - (April to September) embark on a pontoon boat 50 passengers for a cruise of 35 minutes from Marsh Creek near Salt owl, salt marsh in Virginia Beach last developed. Member Cost: $ 3.50, $ 5 nonmembers.
• Dolphin Cruises - (May-October) 90 minutes These trips allow you to see bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat, as well as learn about dolphin VA research. Cost: $ 18 per adult.
• Seal Splash - (all year) This is the only program in the U.S. where you can interact with seals. Cost: $ 125 per person.
• Fisherman's Island Family Adventure - Visit the southern tip of the barrier islands on Virginia to see the wildlife and learn about this important ecosystem. Over 12 years only. Cost: $ 12 for members ($ 15 for nonmembers).
• Ocean Collections - In this 90-minute boat trip across the ocean, the staff will receive samples of marine life for you to see, know, and perhaps touch. Cost: $ 18 per adult, $ 14 (ages 1-11).

Active military (but not their families or guests) get 10% off Combination tickets (entry + film in IMAX ®) with military ID.

Hours from 9 am to 5 pm daily (September-May 1925:) 9:00 a.m.-7 pm (May 26th to August). Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The last time I checked, there was a market holiday in Virginia aquarium "Happy Hour" on the coupon bottom of their brochures. The coupon allows you to buy a ticket and get the second one 50% off if purchased between noon and 2 pm (good day).

One of the best things about Virginia Aquarium is that it is so convenient for Virginia Beach waterfront, through the Virginia Beach Trolley (known as "The Wave.") You can catch the trolley stops along the waterfront and stop right outside the museum.

I've heard that U.S. foreign tourists visiting can buy coupons / passes at home for domestic flights within the U.S.. Apparently these are much cheaper than normal fares. I take my family to the U.S. this summer, and wanted to know how and where I can buy these coupons.

You can buy VUSA (Visit USA) coupons from any reliable travel agent or the airline directly from where you bought your international ticket. There are some restrictions in terms of travel. Have you considered checking online for cheap deals? That just might be much easier and cheaper.
