I know there are many different types of rice. So with an estimated 120,000 varieties of rice worldwide, you may have difficulty knowing what is rice for use with dinner.

Long grain rice

The first variety and is more common to find long-grain rice. The core is long and thin. Once cooked, the grains are still not sticky August. You want to use this rice if you want to serve as a garnish.

Medium grain rice

This nucleus has a grain shorter and wider than long range. Once cooked, the grains are moist, the tenders and a tad tacky. This variety should be your choice if you want to make risotto or paella (Spanish dish).

rice Short grain

This core has a short grain and fat which is almost all year round. Once cooked, the grains are soft and very sticky. This variety is the best option to make pudding.

Other common varieties:

1. Brown - Brown rice is also known as "rice." Brown rice retains the bran and germ of rice. So Brown rice is rich in fiber and dense in nutrients than white rice. Brown rice also takes longer to cook and is not as soft as white rice.
2. Converted or parboiled - Converted Rice is a good compromise between brown and black: it cooks faster than coffee and is richer in nutrients than white.
3. Instant or precooked - It's expensive and softer.
4. Silvestre also known as the India - You may be surprised to know that is not a rice but a grass seed!
